About This Item

(London: Cassell, 1937). First edition. 8vo; original red cloth, lettered in black on spine; no dustwrapper; endpaper maps; pp. xxi + (i) + 311, incl. index; plates. Lightly sunned backstrip somewhat worn at head and tail; corners rubbed; earlier owner's penned name deleted with felt pen on front free endpaper and half-title; very occasional fox spot. Good condition. "More than thirty-five years ago a movement was started in South Africa to make a Reserve for the fauna which had for so long been the prey of big game hunters. Colonel Stevenson-Hamilton was in charge of the Sabi Game Reserve from its earliest days, and under his care it has become the Kruger National Park, one of the most important game reserves in the world. In this book he tells the graphic story of its development, of the difficulties and prejudices he had to conquer, and of how the Kruger National Park has become a great tourist resort and the pride of South Africa." .
