About This Item

London: Collins. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Jacket Design By Biro. The interior of the book is crisp and clean. A former owner has put her initials in the lower corner of the front free end paper, but there are no other marks or wear. The paper has tanned slightly. The blue cloth covers are fresh, showing just a touch of wear at tips and corners. The gilt spine lettering is still bright. The dust jacket is price-clipped, but is otherwise in excellent condition. A very nice copy. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover. Synopsis: "Stately Homes were all very well, if you had sufficient resources to maintain them, but the Beresfords were poor and had to turn the Manor House into a private hotel, much against Grandfather Beresford's wishes. The work -- and the worry -- fell on the capable shoulders of Anna and her mother, who not only sought to make the hotel pay, but struggled to support Stella and Gwenda. Stella was the lazy cousin; Gwenda was a cripple." Romance flowers when a manor house is turned into a private hotel.
