About This Item
The Century Co, 1904. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine. Designed by Lee Thayer of Decorative Designers, with the double-D logo. Green cloth boards with green, white, and gilt design featuring frogs, dragonflies, and flowers. Light wear to tips and spine ends. Entirely written in dialect, this tells the story of Sonny, who grew up to be book smart despite his environment. Note: the regular use of the n-word makes it less light-hearted to today's reader. The 1900 edition of this was also a publishers binding with a frog, but far less interesting. The design incorporates many common natural images for the time including water lilies, dragonflies and frogs. The detailed veined dragonfly wings done is gilt are striking.
