Toronto: William Briggs, 1908. Twelfth edition. Hardcover. Fine/very good. Small octavo, 106pp. Stated "twelfth edition," really the twelfth printing of the first edition. A fine, crisp copy in the publisher's green cloth, stamped in gilt. Gift inscription dated Christmas 1908 on the front free endpaper. In the extremely uncommon dust jacket, very good, with some chips along the edges, and some stains to the rear panel, but no repairs or sophistications. This collection of poems inspired by the Klondike Gold Rush was a major success, very quickly reprinted. Perhaps the two best-known poems herein are "The Shooting of Dan McGrew" and "The Cremation of Sam McGee." The dust jacket reprints a lengthy review from the Toronto Saturday Night magazine, which calls Service "The Canadian Kipling." We have seen very few early printings such as this one in a presentable dust jacket. Scarce thus.
