Edinburgh: T. Maccliesh & Co. , 1804. 12mo, pp. 249, [1] + engraved frontispiece portrait. Contemporary speckled sheep, spine divided by gilt rules, red morocco label. Small hole to one leaf, touching two words with no loss of sense. Extremities slightly worn, joints partially cracked. Ownership inscription of W.E. Pollard to front pastedown. A scarce reprint of Philip Doddridge’s (1702-1751) biography of Colonel James Gardiner (1688-1745) after his death in the Battle of Prestonpans while fighting in the Jacobite uprising.

Established in 1957, McNaughtan's Bookshop is the oldest surviving secondhand and antiquarian bookshop in Scotland.
