About This Item

Dublin: John Archer. Good with no dust jacket. 1791. Hardcover. Full (probably contemporary) Leather with burgundy title label and gilt titling. FRONT COVER DETATCHED. Leather scruffy - scuffed, rubbed and chipped with a little edge loss to the corners and head of the spine. Copper engraved Frontispiece of Charles 1st and a copper engraved Title page. (16 pp including subscribers ) + 479 pages + 8 pp index. With a large fold-out panoramic Map of 'London and Westminster in the Reign of Queen Elizabeth', (no damage just the usual fold creases) and 13 other full page engraved plates (2 images on the eighth plate). All collated and many still with their original tissue guards. Page edges dusty/toned with age. NO Inscriptions. A former owner has cut out a newspaper picture of Gainsborough's 'Portrait of Pennant' and placed it on the 'Advertisement' page - causing a light brown block shape on the page from the newsprint - but all text easily read. Also included as an 'extra' is an original copper engraving of 'Mr Pennants Mill' from 'The Beauties of England and Wales' 1811. Some marks on the blank reverse of the Frontispiece and on the last page - but o/w a Very Clean and Tight copy, just needing the front board re-attached. The Plates are VERY clean. See Images. ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall .
