About This Item
London : Hodder and Stoughton, 1973. Hardcover. Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 480 pages, bibliography, indexed and illustrated. The jacket is chipped at the head of the spine and lightly along the edges and the back carries a short tear at the tail; the head of the front and back flap are lightly damp stained, as is a small section at the head of the front paste down and front end paper. The head is dust stained. Despite these faults, it remains a very good copy - clean, unmarked and solid. "An Arab historian traces events leading to the rise and decline of the powerful Muslim Mamluke Empire between 1250 and 1517." "Lieutenant-General Sir John Bagot Glubb, KCB, CMG, DSO, OBE, MC, KStJ, KPM (16 April 1897 - 17 March 1986), known as Glubb Pasha, was a British soldier, scholar, and author, who led and trained Transjordan's Arab Legion between 1939 and 1956 as its commanding general. During the First World War, he served in France. Glubb has been described as an "integral tool in the maintenance of British control." (Wikipedia) .
