Hardcover Book in Near Fine Condition with a Dust Jacket in Fine Condition. Jacket clipped, with mylar cover. Book was typeset, printed and bound in Great Britain by Butler & Tanner, Somerset. Lavishly illustrated with maps, full color illustrations, b/w illustrations, marvelous period sketches, diagrams, facsimiles of antique engravings. Blue cloth with silver bold titles on spine. Very clean, no soiling, square with sharp corners, lower corners faintly scuffed, upper front corner less than a quarter of an inch tip creased; tight, solid and square sewn binding. Endpapers with red/white map of border between Oxfordshire and Berkshire, 1887. Internals in Fine Condition. This is a major work by one of England's foremost scholars, bringing the reader into prehistoric times and carries one on to the 1980s. Asa Briggs has incorporated research findings of recent years about the society, politics, demography, and economic life of the English people. 320 pages inc Index. 10 X 7.5 inches.
