About This Item

New York: Atheneum, 1970. First edition. Hardcover. Very near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo. [12], 3-405, [1] pp. Bound in brown cloth with author's name stamped ingold on the front board, gold lettering and blue decorative bands on the spine. Price of $10.00 on the front flap of the dust jacket. The third book in the author's Nature of Man series. Includes drawings by the author's wife Berdine Ardrey. Ardery's book on how evolutionary traits influence human and animal behavior. Ardrey aruges that a diversity in phenotypes leads to inequality, and that behavior is not learned but influenced by evolutionary conditions. A source of inspiration for Kubrick's 1968 film, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Ardrey's theories in this book are no longer taken seriously by the scientific community. Ardrey however, remains a significant figure in the fields of sociology and anthropology from his support for the African Genesis theory and his investigations into the origins of humans. A very near Fine book in a Near Fine dust jacket with a few hints of edge wear and mild yellowing to the spine panel and to the front panel.
