A contemporary account of the exploits of John A. (Snow-shoe) Thompson, who from 1856 until 1876, on skis carried the mails in winter across the Sierra between Placerville and Carson City. This is #21 in the series. "This biography of Snow-shoe Thompson, 'The Skiing Mailman of the Sierra,' is reprinted from the Overland Monthly of October, 1886." Preface by Carroll D. Hall, Curator of Sutter's Fort State Historical Monument. Decorated boards. Linoleum block illustration on title, printed in green. Text printed in black and red on French Arches paper. Cream-colored board backstrip. Dan De Quille is the pen-name of William Wright. 3/4" x ½" white sticker with felt number on ffep. Original glassine wraps with two very tiny chips at top corners.
