About This Item
London: Faber and Faber, (1952). Two volumes of the first UK edition. One is INSCRIBED to her good friend Doris Grumbach, the novelist, essayist and critic, "Love to Doris - Kay." In what appears to us to be the first binding: light-red cloth with gold lettering. Chambers [A25c] calls for a burgundy cloth with black lettering. We've included a copy in the burgundy cloth (without a dust jacket). Both books are the same height but the lighter red one is 5-and-a-half inches wide, while the burgundy is about 5-and-an-eighth inches wide. It's evident that the original sheets were trimmed for the later, burgundy binding. The original dust jacket, intended for the lighter red binding, was obviously folded to fit the smaller burgundy book but fits much better on the lighter red one. Minor edgewear to cloth, dust jacket has a few small chips but otherwise very good to fine for both.
