First published in America by Holt & Williams in 1872; this is a Very Good (Minus) copy of a printing from the same year by a different publisher. [there was no copyright protection at this time.] A scarce title. Green ribbed cloth binding with titling in gilt on the spine. The front cover is blindstamped with "Aster Prose Series." Clean text; frontis engraving of the author, 291 pages. Textblock bright and unfoxed. However, several leaves in the front have been reinforced with a linen tape. Spine has faded to brown, with rub to head and foot; the gilt, however, remains bright. Light wear to the covers, with some darkening to the outer edges. In an archival plastic protector.. Early Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good (Minus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
