About This Item
New York, New York: Oxford University Press, Inc., 1948. First Edition First Printing 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. Doane, Pelagie. Collection of both old & new, famous & lesser-known, children's poems carefully selected by the author & brought to life for new generations of readers with her soft watercolor drawings featuring mid-century children. Better known for her illustrations for many girls' series books, this was Doane's first solo book, in 142 pages with Index of titles & first lines in rear, decorative endpapers, & both full-color & pen-and-ink illustrations throughout the text. With soft green textured cloth over boards stamped with bright gilt lettering to front & spine, this hardcover small quarto 7.75" x 10.5") is in VG+ condition: very clean, binding strong & straight, both hinges secure. Pages creamy white with mild tanning, but completely unmarked except for former owner's bookplate to verso of ffep. Mild rubbing to extremities & slightly bumped corners. The unclipped DJ is just Fair, with tearing to bottom, many small chips & creases, chipped corners, & rubbing to extremities. But it's largely intact & colorful, & nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
