About This Item

New York, New York: Oxford University Press, Inc., 1948. First Edition First Printing 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. Doane, Pelagie. Collection of both old & new, famous & lesser-known, children's poems carefully selected by the author & brought to life for new generations of readers with her soft watercolor drawings featuring mid-century children. Better known for her illustrations for many girls' series books, this was Doane's first solo book, in 142 pages with Index of titles & first lines in rear, decorative endpapers, & both full-color & pen-and-ink illustrations throughout the text. With soft green textured cloth over boards stamped with bright gilt lettering to front & spine, this hardcover small quarto 7.75" x 10.5") is in VG+ condition: very clean, binding strong & straight, both hinges secure. Pages creamy white with mild tanning, but completely unmarked except for former owner's bookplate to verso of ffep. Mild rubbing to extremities & slightly bumped corners. The unclipped DJ is just Fair, with tearing to bottom, many small chips & creases, chipped corners, & rubbing to extremities. But it's largely intact & colorful, & nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received Weekdays by 2 pm (Pacific time); later orders, Weekends, & holidays ship very next business day.
