About This Item
London: Wells Gardner Darton & Co. Ltd., 1910. First Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Probable First Edition as the date (1910) on verso of the title page matches the date of a gift inscription on the half title page (Christmas 1910). The interior of the book is clean and tight, showing slight foxing, but few signs of previous use. All sixteen coloured plates by Wheelhouse, with their accompanying tissue guards, are present as is the "maps of the journey" on page 48. There are twelve pages of book advertisements at the rear of the text. The gilt on the top edge of the text block is still bright, but the other two sides are foxed. The brown illustrated covers are clean, showing light edgewear and shallow bumps to the top and bottom of the spine. The dust jacket is in very good condition overall, but with several nicks of paper missing from the top and bottom of the spine. The attached scan gives a better idea of condition. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover.
