About This Item

Paris: Henry Babou & Jack Kahane, 1929. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Paris: Henry Babou & Jack Kahane, 1929. First Paris Edition. [text in English; book was banned in Britain]. 217 pp., clothbacked textured paper boards. Very Good. Spine lightly soiled and has a mild lean, corners showing, previous owner's signature (see scans). A sturdy copy of the Paris first edition of James' banned-in-England and "obscene" book, a tale involving earnest social criticism whose banning and subsequent re-issue in Paris led to such public acclaim that the forming of the famous Obelisk Press was a direct result.
