Toronto: The Musson Book Company, n/d. First trade edition. Hardcover. g. Edmund Dulac. 8vo. [12], 128pp. Gold decorated sienna cloth and spine. Gold faded on spine. Head and tail of spine chipped. Wear to corners. Some scuffing and minor rubbing to boards. Tipped-in frontispiece. This work is considered one of the most important illustrated books of the 20th century. Stunningly illustrated with tipped-in color plates by Edmund Dulac (1882-1953). Dulac was a French artist who became an English citizen in 1912. He is most famous for his illustrations in fairy tale books but was also a caricaturist, portraitist, sculptor and designer. Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch (1863-1944) was a noted literary critic, publishing several volumes; among these are Studies in Literature (1918) and "On the art of Reading" (1920). A rare copy of this classic work. Overall in good condition.
