About This Item

London: Chapman and Hall, 1840. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Praised by acclaimed biography Claire Tomalin as young Dickens at his most playful, this lesser-known work was timed to coincide precisely with the marriage of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. 16mo: 92, [4] p. with 6 illustrations by "Phiz" (Halbot Knight Browne). In a three-quarter green morocco over marbled paper binding by Tout, with decorative gilt stamping, five raised bands, matching marbled endpapers, and a ribbon marker. Period bookseller's label to the front pastedown. The spine is lightly sun faded, with a bit of minor wear to the corners and tips; otherwise very good.
