This is a Ward and Lock reissue of the Longman edition in W&L's Standard Novels format (Two Shillings), with yellow W&L pictorial boards & endpapers (otherwise, it appears to comprise the original Longman's edition); 320 pp; a tight copy with some soiling, including soiling to the boards; Reid had served as Principal of Dalhousie University in Halifax until 1860. He describes his time in the city as "a long sojourn in that dullest of all dull places." [97]
