Absolutely delightful illustrations by James G. Teason, including frontis: Rip Van Winkle--'He Found the House Gone To Decay'; plus eight additional illustrations. Binding of bright red cloth with gilt lettering and elaborate gilt design on front and spine. Clean, tight, solid, square. Front panel has three very small brownish marks, light wear extremities, scuffed on upper rear edge near spine. Text block fore edge is foxed. Interior is quite clean and free from any markings, no creasing, faintly toned. Inner hinge partially cracked. Originally Published in 1820, Washington Irving's celebrated Sketch Book has proved as enduring as the Kaatskill Mountains he immortalized. From these masterpieces in miniature have emerged such universal figures of American fiction and fantasy as Rip Van Winkle, Ichabod Crane, and the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow. 329 pages. 8.75 x 6 inches.
