A smart two volume set of this collection of essays and short stories from American author Washington Irving. Complete in two volumes. Van Tassel edition. Volume one is illustrated with a frontispiece, seventeen plates, and many in-text images or decorations. Volume two is illustrated with a frontispiece, thirteen plates, and many in-text images or decorations. Collated complete. A collection of thirty-four essays and short stories, originally published serially between 1819 and 1820, which includes some of the author's best known works such as "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle." This work also marks Irving's first use of the pseudonym Geoffrey Crayon, which he would continue to employ throughout his literary career. Written by Washington Irving, an American short-story writer, essayist, biographer, historian, and diplomat. In the original blue cloth binding with gilt decoration. Externally, smart with minor rubbing to the extremities and light fading to the spine. Light wear to the head of the spine of volume two. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot. Very Good Indeed

I have found another volume of this same book in similiar condition. I have only read the preface at this time, however it is very interesting because it is written in the old enlish style of the day. very unique to read the language and phrases of the time
