New York: Simon and Schuster, 1956. The third published collection of Gordimer's short stories. A wunderkind, she had her first story at the age of fifteen; she would go on to win numerous literary prizes, including the Booker and the Nobel. Raised in a secular Jewish household, she was a prominent activist against apartheid, and some of her work was banned in her native South Africa. This is a Fine copy of the First American Edition. Green paper-covered boards with tan linen spine; black and gilt titling on the spine; reproduced author signature on the front board. Clean text; 241 pages. The dustjacket has been clipped and shows some surface soiling on the rear panel; else Fine. In an archival plastic protector.. First Canadian Edition.. Hard Cover.
