Color frontispiece. Illustrated with 53 leaves of plates. Thick Folio. Original printed wrappers, in dust wrapper. London, Goupil, J. Boussod, Manzi, Joyant, . . . 1900. Large Paper copy. Limited to 200 copies with an extra suite of 60 engravings in a separate folder. This copy # CLXXXIX.
Lawrence was a leading English portrait painter and the fourth president of the Royal Academy. His first royal commission was a portrait of Queen Charlotte, in 1790, and he remained at the top of his profession until his death in 1830.
Dust wrapper torn and darkened; folder of extra suite is separated at spine, cover detached; a few of the tissue guards are slightly crumbled. The engravings are in excellent condition, with no soiling or foxing. Housed in an archival black drop-front clamshell box with a color photograph on the cover, tied with wide black ribbon. Fine.
