Illustrated with 50 black and white half-tones. First edition, stated first printing. A biography of the author of "Religio Medici", published in 1642 and immediately attacked by partisan factions for not being "traditional" enough in its theology. In an age of super-heated religious rivalry Browne produced one of the seminal works of the struggle between science and faith. No previous ownership marks Mild wear to dust-jacket, albeit no tears or chips. A clean, square, unmarked copy. Very good+ in a good+ dust-jacket. .
