"…in this volume we tread with him the thorny road to success, and more than that, he shows us the seamy side of the inventor's career."-Preface. The book was unfinished at Bessemer's death, and the "Concluding Chapter" was contributed by his son. Laid in is the book's 4pp. prospectus and order form. Ownership signature of great American mechanical engineer (see DAB) "Ambrose Swasey/ Cleveland Sept. 9th 1905," and his large ex-libris depicting the "36 inch Lick Telescope," the observatory built by him. Fine.
