Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1938. First edition, title page date 1938. Author's first novel. Includes personal inscription signed by Sarton on the half-title, dated 1982, consistent with the program for A Magic Encounter with May Sarton which is laid in loosely at the front. Tan cloth printed in red, no dustjacket. Covers are darkened with use-related soil, edge rubbing, good hinges, sound text block, lightly age-toned but clean pages, additional name of R. Burgess in pencil at top inside of both covers, no other markings. From the collection of a History professor who became friends with Sarton when they first met at Depauw University in the mid 1950s.. Inscribed by the Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
