About This Item
John J. Niles, Singing Soldiers, published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1927. With illustrations by Margaret Thorniley Williamson. John Jacob Niles' wonderful account of his adventures flying around France in 1918 when he was in the US Air Service in WWI. He paid more attention to writing down song lyrics provided by African-American soldiers working in France than he did to his military flying duties. But that's okay; the result (this book) is really special. This copy has the bookplate of Janice Cleary, of Omaha, Nebraska. Cleary collected American folk music and specialized in the music of American ragtime, including African-American music. Hardback book in good condition; light general wear. Dust jacket in good- condition; wear and chips on edges and corners. Dust jacket in protective Mylar cover.
