The Silver Wedding Of The Bear is a book written by Holker Abbott that serves as a memorial to the celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Tavern Club in 1910. The Tavern Club is a private social club for men located in Boston, Massachusetts, that was founded in 1885. The book contains a collection of speeches, poems, and essays that were presented during the anniversary celebration. It also includes photographs and illustrations of the club and its members. The title of the book refers to the club's mascot, a stuffed bear named Bruin, who is dressed in a tuxedo and top hat for the occasion. The book provides a glimpse into the history and culture of the Tavern Club and its members, as well as their contributions to the arts, literature, and society in Boston. The typography is by the notable American book designer Bruce Rogers (1870-1957), who "was appreciated in his lifetime. In addition to several honorary degrees, in 1948 he was awarded a gold medal from the American Academy of Arts and Letters for distinction in the graphic arts. Over decades of accomplishment in which he designed approximately 500 books... Rogers literally defined the profession of book designing in the United States" (ANB). Francis Meynell stated that Rogers was."the greatest artificer of the book who ever lived

About Oak Knoll Books/Oak Knoll Press

Oak Knoll Books was founded in 1976 by Bob Fleck, a chemical engineer by training, who let his hobby get the best of him. Somehow making oil refineries more efficient using mathematics and computers paled in comparison to the joy of handling books. Oak Knoll Press, the second part of the business, was established in 1978 as a logical extension of Oak Knoll Books. Oak Knoll Books is a thriving company that maintains an inventory of about 20,000 titles. Our main specialties are books about bibliography, book collecting, book design, book illustration, book selling, bookbinding, bookplates, children's books, Delaware books, fine press books, forgery, graphic arts, libraries, literary criticism, marbling, papermaking, printing history, publishing, typography & type specimens, and writing & calligraphy - plus books about the history of all of these fields.
