The Silent Partner Company, 1922-01-01. Single Issue Magazine. Good. The Silent Partner Company, Vol. XVII, Number 5, March 1922. Single Issue Magazine, Numbered pages 207 - 255 with several pages of ads at the back. In good condition. Brown paper covers with red and black lettering and illustration. Covers are quite browned with age and have light bumping and creasing to edges and corners. 1" chaffed patch at bottom of spine where a price sticker was removed, taking some of the color with it. Light overall scuffing and soiling to covers as well. Binding tight (staple bound). Pages browned but otherwise unmarked. NOT Ex-library. NO remainder marks. Fred Dewitt Van Anburgh (1866 - 1944) started out working for the railroads before switching to publishing at the age of 21. He published a few small town serial publications before branching out on his own. In 1911 he began publishing The Silent Partner, a monthly magazine of inspiration and human interest. The magazine was subscription-only and its circulation steadily increased to a national circulation. The magazine was self-described as "More Than a Magazine - an Institution of Inspiration, Practical Encouragement and Service." The cover of this issue from March 1922 states: Old Clothes : An article that will Cause you to Think; The Come-Back Year; Dreams; Self-Education; Looking for the Scarlet Letter; Sixty Live Subjects. Includes ads from Waldorf-Astoria, Woman's college of Arts and Science, Alexander Hamilton Institute, Colton Manor, Atlantic City; DelPark Underwear; Watkinson & Bournique; Kalamazoo Vegetable Parchment Co, Benjamin & Johnes; The C.E. Conover Company; H. R. Mallinson & Company, Durham-Duplex Razor, among others.
