About This Item
London, England: Prentice-Hall - Bison Books, 1977. Fifth impression. Red full cloth boards, black stamped spine titles, lt. shelf wear. Heavy stock pages fine. Printed by Dai Nippon, Tokyo, Japan. Unpaginated, prolificly illustrated in black and white and full-color! "Signal, Hitler's Wartime Picture Magazine, was the largest selling magazine in Europe during World War II. Published fortnightly in as many as twenty languages it had a phenomenal sale of three million copies at its peak in 1943. Published in Berlin largely for the consumption of neutral and subject peoples, it was produced in English for the conquered Channel Islands of Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and Sark as well as the Republic of Ireland and, until Pearl Harbor, the United States, where it sold for ten cents per copy. Its design and format appear up-to-date even today, and its editors, artists and photographers took their skills to Paris-Match and a number of German publications after the war. Life Magazine imitated many features of Signal both during and after the war. Above all, Signal is a unique social document of life in Europe under the swastika which has no parallel.".. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Book.
