A very smart three volume set from the Ancient Cities series, richly illustrated throughout. A first edition three volume set in the publisher's original cloth binding. A pamphlet from the publisher, advertising their Little Guides is loosely inserted in the first volume concerning Shrewsbury. A pamphlet advertising the publisher's new books is bound in, and a publisher's advertisement for The Portreeve by Eden Phillpotts and an order form for Methuen's popular novels are loosely inserted in the second volume concerning Shrewsbury. A pamphlet from the publisher advertising their The Library of Devotion is loosely inserted in the volume concerning Lincoln. 15 full page illustrations, 2 maps, and 23 illustrations in the text in both volumes concerning Shrewsbury. 11 full page illustrations, 2 plans and 21 illustrations in the text in the volume concerning Lincoln. Collated complete. Three volumes from the Ancient Cities series, published by Methuen & Co., on Shrewsbury and Lincoln. The volumes on Shrewsbury (1905) were written by Thomas Auden, with illustrations by Katharine M. Roberts. The volume on Lincoln (1906) was written by E. Mansel Sympson, with illustrations by Edmund Hort New (1871-1931), who was a leading illustrator of his day. These volumes are all first editions and explore the history and topography of the town and city. The volume on Lincoln is uncommon. 40 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of the volumes concerning Shrewsbury. In publisher's original cloth binding. Externally in lovely condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with some spotting to the first and last few pages, and to the fore edge, affecting the occasional page. Very Good Indeed
