About This Item
Los Angeles: done for the Reformed Persians [at the Auk Press], 1949. Chapbook, 5.75" x 4"; pp. [2], 10, [4]; vignette title page printed in brown and black, text illustration of "Miss Fountain at her case"; original green printed paper wrappers, vignette title page in brown and black, Auk Press printers mark in colophon in back; fine. With envelope from Dawson's bookshop addressed to Emerson G. Wulling. William M. Cheney was an "erudite, self-taught printer who takes great interest in words, phrases, and learning that are generally considered obsolete... His reasoning ability can leave readers behind him -- but that is not Cheney's fault. He writes mainly to please himself and as a result often produces printing that only a few close friends can understand... Not all of Cheney's writings are obscure -- although most of his printed pieces are hard to locate" (Muir Dawson).
