About This Item

1849 Boston Massacre Samuel Adams MAP England Townshend Acts Soldier Americana

Originally published in 1770 this 'Short Narrative of the Horrid Massacre in Boston' was published within days of the events of the Boston Massacre on March 5, 1770 and included an appendix of ninety-six depositions from eyewitnesses. The book was printed by the town of Boston written to England to share with the crown their Patriot point of view. The story was compiled by 15 town members including Samuel Adams, and soldiers who were in town to help enforce the Townshend Acts and keep the peace in the restive city. Though under orders not to use their weapons against the citizenry on the evening of March 5, 1770, on King Street, soldiers fired into an aggressive crowd, killing five people.

This rare 1849 edition includes both the illustrated frontispiece of soldiers firing on citizens as well as the rare fold-out map!
