New York: A.L. Burt 2 volume set, approximately 8" H. Half-leather binding with medium-brown spines and corners, marbled paper-covered boards, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Spines have five raised bands, gilt lettering/decoration and two leather labels (1 red, 1 black) bearing the title, author's last name and volume number. B&w plates, including tissue-guarded frontispieces, genealogical tables, maps - all present. No publication date. Volume I. lv, 583 pp. Section headings: Chronological Annals; Genealogical Tables; The English Kingdoms, 607-1013; England Under Foreign Kings, 1013-1204; The Great Charter, 1204-1265; The Three Edwards, 1265-1360; The Hundred Years' War, 1336-1431; The New Monarchy, 1422-1540; The Reformation. Volume II. [v], 538 pp. Section headings: Puritan England; The Revolution; Modern England; Epilogue, 1815-1873; Index. **Please note: Many of the pages of these volumes are "unopened" and you will require a paper knife to open the fore edges when first reading.** Volume I has a very smlall edge tear (archivally taped) on page i, two small areas of surface loss of marbling on the rear board due to rubbing. Volume II has a small edge tear (archivally taped) on pages 114 & 115 plus a small area of tiny chips due to opening of the fore-edge. Both volumes have very light browning to the pages, very light edge wear, browning to the fore-edge and bottom of the text blocks.. Not Signed. New Edition, Thoroughly Revised.. Hard Cover - Half Leather. Very Good/No Jacket.
