About This Item

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1944. vi, 260 pages. Scarce August 1944 (date code I-T) reprint of the fourth book in the "Little House" series. It was a Newbery Honor Book for 1940. The book is clean and tight in the scarce dust jacket that has some minor edgewear. The white background on the jacket has darkened, and there is some spine sunning but the title and names of author, publisher, and illustrators are clear. Nicer than it sounds, and still a desirable copy for the collector. Association copy: from the personal library of the noted Henry James scholar, Elsa M. Nettles (1931-2016. In her 30 years on the faculty of the College of William and Mary, Nettels was honored by the Phi Beta Kappa Society's Faculty Award for the Advancement of Scholarship and College's most prestigious award, The Thomas Ashley Graves, Jr. Award for Sustained Excellence in Teaching. On the front free endpaper is a Christmas 1944 gift inscription to the 13 years of age Elsa from her "Mother and Daddy.". 6th Printing. Hard Cover. Collectible-Very Good ++/Good. Illus. by Helen Sewell And Mildred Boyle. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.
