When Jem's mother falls ill, his father sets out on a pilgrimage to the Holy City of St. James, leaving Jem in charge of the shop. Jem knows he's not good enought to take his father's place. How will he manage? Then one night, he is beset by strange visitors clamoring for the three silver keys. Jem knows nothing about the keys, but before the night is out, he is guarding them and must make a desperate choice between the powers of good and evil.
