Inscribed by author thusly: "To René Dentan with all good wishes and thanks - Hugh Downs"; I acquired this copy from Mr. Dentan's widow, who settled in Colorado Springs with her husband some years ago; Dentan, 77, passed away at his home in Colorado Springs in 1990; He was the former chief executive of Rolex Watch USA for 45 years, who began his career as the sole North American representative of the company, and rose to become president and chairman emeritus; Mr. Dentan was acquainted with numerous celebrities from various fields including exploration, publishing, the media, entertainment, science and adventure; These same celebrities sang the praises of the Rolex Watch in publications such as The New Yorker Magazine, and the New York Times beginning in the 1960's when the rugged, handsome Rolex was a little known Swiss brand; Dentan's company carved a niche in the lucrative up-scale New York market with its innovative design and dependability; Dark yellow end papers, clean and tight textblock.
