1937. HOSHINO, Tatsuo. (Editor). Shina Jihen Shashin Zenshu [China Incident Photograph Album]. 6 volumes, illustrated throughout with photographs and photomontage. Small folio, 330 x 255 mm., bound in publisher's decorated cloth in original decorated cardboard slipcases. Tokyo: Asahi Shinbunsha, 1937-1940. A rare complete set of these important and extensive propaganda books published by the newspaper Asahi Shimbun recording Japanese actions in the second Sino-Japanese war. The books were beautifully designed and laid out by Kawabata Ryushi, with photographs by Masao Kageyama, Gen Otsuka, Ken Hashida, Masa Tabata and Mutsuo Ueda. The set is comprised as follows: Volume 1: North China; Volume 2: Shanghai; Volume 3: Battle along Yellow River and Xuzhou; Volume 4: Wuhan and Guangzhou operation; Volume 5: Hainan, Nanchang operation; Volume 6: The Great Eagle Unit (fighter aircraft).
