New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1945. First printing of this romance of "a banker's son who falls in love with a girl from the "wrong side of the tracks"", which Derleth regarded as one of his ten best works. First edition (first printing) with Scribners' A on copyright page, but in the later jacket - Derleth bought remaindered titles from Scribner and warehoused them, printing new jackets for a couple of titles in, probably, the 1960s. Hardcover, full black cloth, green titling, gilt stripes. Light wear to book, minor stains; jacket lightly rubbed with a black mark at the base of the spine. Text clean; [8], 511 pages.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 5¾" by 8".
