About This Item
The spine has a severe lean, but binding remains sound overall. Clean, unmarked interior. Some areas of light soiling and edge-wear to the covers. The often elusive Rosenthal lived much of his life in San Francisco's Kaliflower Commune and, as editor of the Chicago Review, published portions of Naked Lunch in the late 1950s. This bildungsroman—scarce and long out of print—is decadent, dense, and notable for its design eccentricities: a rear-view drawing of a praying mantis to the half-title, a self-deprecatory ethnic caricature to the title page, and a cover featuring a high-camp author portrait taken by underground filmmaker and drag pioneer Jack Smith.
