This set of four books was privately printed for members of London's Casanova Society in 1923. The Casanova Society's brief existence lasted from 1922 - 1926, and this was their second publication.This is a Limited Edition. Sets numbered 1 to 750 were of sixteen volumes, and sets numbered 751 to 2250 were of four volumes. The set being offered for sale here is Set #844, complete in four volumes. The set is in good condition with some rubbing at the edges, corners and hinges, and occasional spotting. Each volume is numbered - 844 - which shows a complete original set. Each of the volumes is signed on the title page by Ellsworth Fleming of the Casanova Society, and each is also signed by Fleming again on the following page which describes the publication of the volumes. This set will provide many long evenings of enjoyable reading, and will make a fine addition to your library of classic literature. It's not ofter that you find two original volumes published / printed in 1726. Overall, these titles are in V Good condition and 100% legible ( albeit with Olde English spelling ) The titles are leather bound (spines and corners) with printed board covers.
A previous owner has pasted additional pages at the start of Volume 1 and pasted various newspaper clippings and hand written texts relevant to the themes of Mr Toland dated through the 1800's further enhancing the value of the set.
John Toland (30 November 1670 – 11 March 1722) was an Irish rationalist philosopher and freethinker, and occasional satirist, who wrote numerous books and pamphlets on political philosophy and philosophy of religion. Born in Ireland, he was educated at the universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leiden and and was influenced by the philosophy of John Locke.

This is Volume Two only of a two volume set. It is the Second Edition, 22nd thousand, bound in 3/4 leather (leather spine and corners) with marbled covers and marbled endsheets.There is a former owner's handwritten name and date (1890) and bookplate inside. The book is in very good condition.

Includes index. Stamped at lower edge of title page: "Withdrawn from P.C.P. & S. Library" [Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science]. In Very Good- Condition: modern binding clean and bright; frontispiece, title page, and several following leaves have old stain; archival repair of loss in lower part of title page (no loss of printing); some foxing on folded plates; otherwise, clean and tight.

Possibly the earliest work by the noted literary critic and Shakespearean authority; Was awarded The Chancellor's prize while Chambers was still a student at Oxford. Forgeries provides a scholarly, yet lively and interesting look at the forgery of books, documents and manuscripts throughout history. 8½ x 5½". 37. Original printed tan wrappers with side stitched thread binding. 40 pp. Wraps soiled, one inch closed tear and "C" inked to front wrap. Pages toned with neat penciled annotations of a critical and academic tone throughout. Quite scarce first printing in good or better condition, none in orig. binding found in commerce at this time. OCLC suggests this edition held in European libraries, but none in North America.

Fourteen volumes in original hardcovers. Series 1: volumes 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 15, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26. 1896-1914. Generally condition runs from Good to Very Good plus. These are heavy volumes that are prone to binding failures when handled improperly. Some of these volumes are sound, some strengthened with new endpapers, some where binding is starting. None have failed bindings. The earlier volumes show more general wear to the boards than later volumes. I have prepared a more complete condition report on each volume so feel free to inquire. Presented in Marian blue imitation leather display-shelf, lined in gold velvet or velveteen, with imitation dentelles. Both volumes printed in red & black, with rubricated capitals and decorative borders. Illustrated with several full-page reproductions of black & white drawings. Text in French, with some Latin. An charming, sumptuously bound set of A. Mame et Fils nos. 152 & 166, respectively.
