Langdon Gilkey was a young American teacher at Yenching University nea Peking, China, when Japanese military under wartime pressure rounded up all foreigners into an internment camp. 2-1/2 yrs later they were released. Gilkey kept a journal during his imprisonment. The camp became a living laboratory, a miniature society illustrating the human condition & moral dilemmas. A vivid diary of prison life & a theologian's mature reflection on the condition of men in times of stress. .
