About This Item

San Francisco: The Arion Press, 1997. Hardcover. Near fine. This is copy 114 of 200. The sonnets of William Shakespeare (1564-1616) include some of the greatest and most memorable poetry in the English language. The establishment of a new text and the publication of a commentary by Helen Vendler of Harvard University, one of the foremost interpreters of Shakespeare's poetry, were among the reasons The Arion Press chose to produce this fine edition of the sonnets and set the type by hand. Prospectus laid in. Octavo. The paper is linen-content Hahnemuhle, a German mouldmade sheet. Red-brown goatskin spine, lettered in gilt, over a red-brown floral brocade cloth-covered boards. As is often the case, there is some mild fading along the spine; else near fine.
