Originally published in German in 2000 as "Im Shatten des Pols" and here translated by Martin Solokinsky, the author's account of his re-creation of the 1916 voyage made by Ernest Shackleton from Elephant Island to South Georgia in a replica of the original boat "James Caird", "James Caird II". 197pp, 16pp (mostly) colour illustrations.. First US Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
