Stopes was an unusual woman. Trained as a physical scientist, paleobotany, she became a proponent for women's rights in general with an emphasis on the right to birth control. She was against abortion, believing widespread access to birth control would eliminate the need for abortions. She founded the first birth control clinic in Britain. She published on paleobotany and much more on women's issues. This book was one of her later writings. This from wikipedia. There's no entry for her in either the 11th EB or the 1935 DNB. .
