About This Item

New York: Garden City Publishing Company, Inc., 1937. Richard Halliburton was a charming, witty, and reckless young adventurer who pushed the envelope of danger without thinking twice. Ultimately, Halliburton's luck ran out and he died while on one of his worldwide escapades, but that was not until the early 1940s. (Although this book was originally published in 1935, and this is a 1937 reprint, a number of later 1942 reprints came out due to the publicity following the intrepid adventurer's death.) But Halliburton packed in a lot of living before then and wrote a number of popular books that created vicarious thrills for his many armchair readers. About a third of this particular book deals with Halliburton's experience in Soviet Russia of the 1930s. This book is in Very Good condition. Clean and attractive, the book, still protected by its original dust jacket, is bound in deep blue cloth, with die-stamped bright silver titles on the front panel and spine. The former owner's small signature is on the reverse of the frontis illustration. The binding is tight, and the pages are mainly bright and clean, with only minimal age toning. The book includes photographic illustrations and endpaper maps, showing Halliburton's travels. The dust jacket is Very Good. It has several small chips, the largest, about 1/2 an inch, on the bottom of the spine. There are also some tears that have been repaired on the reverse, as well as light soiling. I've placed the dust jacket into a Brodart protective sleever. The book measures 6 by 8 1/4 inches and includes 417 pages. Click on photo.. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Chap Book.
