The four-page dedication "To the King", though signed in print by Reynolds was actually written by Samuel Johnson who, according to scholars, along with Burke and Malone applied some "polish" to the discourses before publication. A tight example but with the front board now detached, some rubbing at tips and edges and age cracking to the spine strip. Contemporary ownership signnature "John Fox" top corner of the ffep. In a custom clamshell box.
