About This Item

Great Britain: Fraser Stewart. Fine/Very Good. 1993. First Edition. Decorative Laminated Boards. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall 1856480364 Harback In 1876 the first passenger train ran on the Midland Railway's Settle-Carlisle line. Driving across the Dales and through the Penines it helped to give the Midland access to Scotland and enabled the company to complete aganst the LNWR and the East Coast partners. Respected photographer T. G. Flinders has collected a remarkable selection of over 200 photographs which take the reader over the line in five pictorial stages. While the emphasis is on the current scene, the book also contains flashbacks to the days of steam and a look at the 'new steam era' of British Rail's 'Cumbrian Mountain Express'. With such sights as the Three Peaks - Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent - in the background, the Settle-Carlisle route is particularly photogenic, and all enthusiasts will appreciate this pictorial survey. Illustrated throughout. Illustrated laminated boards. Very slight wear to top corners of D/J. .
