About This Item
A tight and unmarked copy-" Two aimless young men, one a dreamer, the other a realist, decide to release most of the animals in the Vienna Zoo.- It is 1967 and two Viennese university students want to liberate the Vienna Zoo, as was done after World War II. But their good intentions have both comic and gruesome consequences, in this first novel written by a twenty-five-year-old John Irving, already a master storyteller."
Synopsis
This is about the novel; for the organization, see Free the Bears Fund. Setting Free the Bears is the first novel by American author John Irving, published in 1968 by Random House. Irving studied at the Institute of European Studies in Vienna in 1963 and Bears was written between 1965 and 1967 based largely on Irving’s understanding of the city and its rebellious youth of the sixties.
