New York: Random House, 1968. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Near Fine in a Very Good jacket, unclipped ($5.95), bumped at the edges, a tear and some creases at the bottom edge. Quarter red cloth with salmon paper on the boards. Square and firmly bound with a red top stain, clean internally. Irving's debut novel, advertised on the jacket as containing two narrators that represent "a contemporary Don Quixote and his Sancho Panza.
Synopsis
This is about the novel; for the organization, see Free the Bears Fund. Setting Free the Bears is the first novel by American author John Irving, published in 1968 by Random House. Irving studied at the Institute of European Studies in Vienna in 1963 and Bears was written between 1965 and 1967 based largely on Irving’s understanding of the city and its rebellious youth of the sixties.
