His philosophical works and letters are considered the most reliable source of information for the period leading up to the fall of the Roman Republic. In the first century B.C., Cicero wrote a series of 'Sententiae', most notably his 'work 'Laelius De Amicitia' – a landmark survey of friendship and relationships. This treatise would serve as the basis for countless future works including 16th-century Portuguese philosopher André Rodrigues Eborense and his work 'Sententiae'.

This lot of the works of Eborense includes his "Exemplorum memorabilium", a philosophical study in Christian ethics.
